Mike Israetel: Black Belt in BJJ

Mike Israetel is well-known in the fitness and sports world, especially for his knowledge of strength training and nutrition. However, he is also a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), a martial art focused on grappling and ground fighting.

Mike Israetel is a BJJ black belt athlete. On November 17, his coach, Josh Vogel, promoted him to black belt at The Jiu-Jitsu Company. This makes Mike a 1st-degree black belt, while his teacher, Josh Vogel, is a 3rd-degree black belt.

Mike started training in BJJ in 2012. However, from 2012 to 2018, he couldn’t fully focus on it because he was also busy with bodybuilding, coaching, and his work with Renaissance Periodization (RP). Even though he was very busy, he never lost his interest in BJJ.

In 2018, Mike shared an update about his BJJ training. He mentioned that he trains 3-4 times a week at Balance MMA, including 1-2 private sessions with his coach. Balancing this with his intense bodybuilding schedule, which involves training six times a week, was challenging. But his love for BJJ kept him going. His hard work and effort finally paid off when he got his black belt.
